Queenscliff Music Festival 2009

A very popular music festival at Queenscliff on the entrance to Port Phillip Bay, Victoria Australia.

This year my wife and I went to the Saturday session. Again we found some great artists.
This year I also used my new SONY PCM-D50 recorder with the SP-TFB binaural mics in stealth mode. Worked really well. I had the Sony recorder in a CD carry case that I wore around my waist. This made it easy to get at and check settings etc without being too noticeable .

Yvette Johansson @ the Vue Grand

A great Jazz singer (who went on way too long between songs with the stories!!!)
Accompanied by Joe Ruberto – piano, Michael Tortoni – double bass and Anthony Baker – drums.

Simon Phillips – Guitarist

This year we finally got to have a ride on the “Blues Train” and heard this great guitarist singing jazz/blues.
The sound was surprisingly good considering the train was moving, so you get the carriage clickitty clack in the background.

Nano Stern (CHILE) – Guitarist

Finally listened to this brilliant Chilean artist. A student of traditional music of the world. He takes those songs and puts a new flavor to them. We were also treated to the cameo appearance of Mal Webb on the trombone and slide trumpet.

ROGER CLARK

A stalwart of the Grampians Jazz scene. He has been playing here for as long as I have been coming. A great player. Also found his bio on the yamaha site. He is also the owner of the famous DIZZYS jazz club in Melbourne Australia.

Excuse the low quality photo (my little nikon couldn’t handle the low light)

He had another great sax player with him, who also plays a  mean piano as well.

DNA Jazz

Anyone in Melbourne would be familiar with The Footy Buskers. These guys hang out at the The Dome and the MCG and love their footy. They have entertained crowds for many years.
Did you know that they are accomplished Jazz musos? Well listen to this set, some great playing. They both are multi-instrumentalists.

Also the little slide trumpet came out!
