March 20, 2009

Another great weekend of jazz at Halls Gap. This is about the 12 year that I have been going. Anyway hope you enjoy these snippets!

ROGER CLARK

A stalwart of the Grampians Jazz scene. He has been playing here for as long as I have been coming. A great player. Also found his bio on the yamaha site. He is also the owner of the famous DIZZYS jazz club in Melbourne Australia.

Excuse the low quality photo (my little nikon couldn’t handle the low light)

He had another great sax player with him, who also plays a  mean piano as well.

DNA Jazz

Anyone in Melbourne would be familiar with The Footy Buskers. These guys hang out at the The Dome and the MCG and love their footy. They have entertained crowds for many years.
Did you know that they are accomplished Jazz musos? Well listen to this set, some great playing. They both are multi-instrumentalists.

Also the little slide trumpet came out!

ARQ Jazz

Another great mainstream band. Featured sax player who played with Roger. Good to hear a good modern Trombone player as well.

The TOUGH Times

This was a very entertaining band with some great introductions by the band leader Chris. Best double bass player at the festival! Also featured Ryan from “Swingin Both Ways” on guitar.

Simon Wright and the Eclective – MySpace

In January this year I went to a few night markets held at Johnston Park Geelong.

They had a number of bands playing and I was particularly impressed with the bass playing in this band.
Real funky stuff!
